Title for Topics in Down Syndrome Series...
We're pleased to add this new
title to our popular series, Topics in Down Syndrome,
which covers specific issues-teaching reading, medical and surgical
care, gross and fine motor skills, and communication skills-of
interest to parents and professionals. In her new book, Libby
Kumin, an expert in communication skills and Down syndrome and
previous Woodbine House author (Communication
Skills in Children with Down Syndrome, 1994), discusses
ways in which to help elementary school children improve their
language skills within inclusive classrooms. An essential primer
for parents and teachers!

Title for Topics in Autism Series...
Our Topics in Autism series
offers parents and professionals an in-depth look at specific
topics to improve the lives of children with autism and their
families. The books in this series cover sibling issues, understanding
Applied Behavior Analysis and using behavior intervention techniques,
and teaching independent behavior through use of activity schedules.
Our newest titles in this series address the important issues
of communication and social skills.
In Reaching Out, Joining In, expert clinicians introduce social skills
programs for preschool- and kindergarten-aged children with autism,
with a focus on play, rules, empathy, and inclusion. A comprehensive
and practical book for parents and teachers to help children
with autism become better adjusted socially at school and home.
In A
Picture's Worth, the developers of PECS (Picture
Exchange Communication System) explain how non-verbal children
with autism can use pictures and other visual strategies to express
their needs and desires. A Picture's Worth promises
the opportunity for most children with autism to acquire meaningful
and effective communication skills.

2001 New Parents' Guides...
We're very pleased to introduce
two new parent's guides--
Woodbine House's parents' guides
form the core of our Special-Needs Collection. These comprehensive
guides provide parents with essential information and support
about their child's condition. Kids
with Celiac Disease addresses a chronic, lifelong
digestive disorder that affects as many as 1 out of 150-200 Americans.
Children
with Traumatic Brain Injury, written by a team of expert
professionals and parents, helps parents understand what they
can do to improve their child's recovery.

2001 New Children's book...
These two new children's books
are lively and colorful presentations about children with disabilities
engaged in their daily lives. Russ
and the Almost Perfect Day is the third book in the
popular series, A Day with Russ, and features Russ, a
third grader with Down syndrome who faces a moral dilemma. Eddie Enough! is a story
about a third grader whose difficulty slowing down often gets
him into trouble and earns him an annoying new nickname.
