"The youngsters depicted in these small, easy-to-handle concept books have facial features characteristic of children with Down syndrome. Their smiles engage readers and pull them into the simple contents. ABCs has one letter per page with a noun known to most preschoolers represented in several ways: a color photo of a child or children playing with, holding, wearing, or eating the item named (e.g., apple, balloon, hat), a simple graphic depiction of it in the outer border, the word and the letter in upper- and lowercase bold colors, and the letter in sign language. In Colors, the child wears a garment or holds a toy or common food representing the color. At the border the name of the color is written in both English and Spanish and is shown as a shape (e.g., a red square, orange circle, yellow triangle). In both books, boys and girls are represented, and they range in age from infancy to three or four years. These titles are clear and focused throughout and could appeal to any preschooler."
-School Library Journal

"These two charming board books, illustrated with photos of children with Down syndrome, provide a fun, colorful way for any child, including a child with a developmental disability, to learn colors and the alphabet. Learn Colors, in English en Espanol, uses photos and geometric shapes to teach colors. Each page of Learn ABCs has the letter in upper and lower case, a photo of a child, a drawing of word that begins with the letter, and the word written across the bottom of the page. Each page also shows the hand position for the letter in American Sign Language."
-Newsline (Federation for Children with Special Needs), Spring 2010

"Photo illustrations of children withi Down syndrome present the object of the letter: A is for Apple, B is for Balloon. Cartoon illustrations appear in a sidebar, as well as the letter itself, the word, and the sign. The children are beautiful--smiling, laughing, just being kids. A nice book to make Down syndrome children feel included in the world of picture books. A nice book for any home or classroom interested in illustrating and promoting diversity. A second book, Learn Colors, is also available."
